The Belgian Tervuren is One of the Four Belgian Herders

The Belgian Tervuren has long hair "blackened" fawn or red. He like the other three Belgian herders are characterized by an elegant but muscular frame, a proudly carried head, an alert and intelligent demeanor, and a work drive that is never satisfied. 

The male Belgian Tervuren has a more profuse sporty collarette around the neck. Both male and females are known in its country of origin as the Chien de Berger Beige. This variety owes its name to the Belgian village of Tervuren, home of M.F. Corbeel, who was an early devotee of the breed. Corbeel bred the fawn colored "Tom" and "Poes" who are commonly considered the foundation couple of the breed to produce the fawn color.

The Belgian Tervuren is an excellent listener. When it comes to training he is alert for instructions from his trainer as well as the praise. They do well with obedience training as well as a variety of other activities and dog sports including agility, rally, herding, coursing ability test, and tracking.

He is an excellent home companion, intelligent and sensitive so long as adequate training is provided him.

He reigned in the Belgian's countryside as a general herding and guard dog. I would venture to say he also would make a fantastic guard dog for his human companions. Source: American Kennel Club
