Grooming: You would think this huge dog required hours of grooming. This is not the case. Their coat is dirt and tangle resistant. They have a double coat with a long outer coat and a soft undercoat. They shed in the spring, and after whelping. Brush them thoroughly with a pin brush or slicker brush at least once per week. Use Life's Abundance Pet Grooming Products for superior results.

Life's Abundance offers a Stainless Steel Odor Remover that may be beneficial to you:

 Stainless Steel Odor Remover

  • Special steel alloy neutralizes odors
  • Contoured knobs for relaxing pet massage
  • Eco-friendly alternative to harsh soaps
  • Removes stubborn smells like onion & garlic
One of the interesting properties of stainless steel is its ability to bind to pungent odors. We’ve taken this unique science a step further by adding contoured nubs. Now, you can provide your pet kid with a relaxing massage that also instantly neutralizes stubborn stinkiness. You can even use it to remove the lingering scents of onion, garlic and fish from your own hands, too. Not only does our Stainless Steel Odor Remover fit comfortably in the palm of your hand, it’s dishwasher safe for simple cleaning!

Prys are not a highly active breed. They were developed to guard livestock and have been used since ancient times to protect flocks from wolves, bears and human enemies. Watch them work as they patrol their territory like a prison guard in uniform slowly and cautiously conserving their energy for the time they will need to spring into action.

The Patient, Friendly and Dependable Great Dane Dog Breed

The Great Dane is a powerful giant of a dog presenting an elegant and well balanced easy stride of born noblemen. He towers over most other dogs. When standing on his hind legs, he or she is taller than most people.
Johann Christof Merck - Ulmer Dogge - WGA15061

The best known coat color for a Great Dane is the black and white patchwork pattern known as "harlequin." However, you can also find other colors and patterns.

The Great Dane is sweet in nature, yet make powerful alert home guardians. Just the sight of these giant dogs is sometimes enough to make intruders run for their life instead of intruding upon your privacy. They are patient with kids and make friends easily with everyone around them (if trained properly).

These dogs are known by those who love the Great Dane breed as being the "Mighty Apollo of Dogs." They can be a total joy to live with, however, ownership of a dog of such imposing size, weight and strength is a long term commitment you must consider carefully. Don't enter into the relationship lightly. The Great Dane is indeed "great."
Gt. Dane, Lucy

Feed the Great Dane a high-quality dog food such as those offered through Life's Abundance. Go light on the table scraps if even at all. You can find much more "dog" nutritious foods through reputable dog food companies than table scraps and bits and pieces of this and that from your cupboard. Be aware that the number one killer of this breed is "bloat." This is a condition where the stomach distends and twists. Experts of this breed recommend feeding multiple small meals per day and preventing vigorous exercise around mealtimes to help prevent "bloat."
Duffy the brindle Great Dane

The Great Dane will have a short, smooth coat most of the year that does not shed much. Because of the size of this dog, the hair shed can be considerable. Brush them weekly with a medium bristle brush, a rubber grooming mitt or a hound glove. Use Life's Abundance Bath Fresh Mist as you groom for a continuous fresh scent and to help keep the coat shiny. Bath them occasionally. Use Life's Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo with Mango and Kiwi long lasting fresh scent for outstanding results. Your Great Dane will feel as though they have been to the spa!

Great Danes require daily exercise. A brisk walk two or three times a day will help them stay fit mentally and physically. They are good jogging and hiking companions. You won't have to worry about getting mugged, kidnapped or otherwise injured by intruders of your activity privacy with a Great Dane along your side. The mere size of a Great Dane is most of the time enough to scare off any kind of attacker. Keep them on a leash at all times.
Recommended Health Tests for breeders include:

The Independent, Happy and Outgoing Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen

The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen is a French scent hound who is active, yet never high-strung. They are busy dogs who do not tire easily.

This breed's name translated means "large, low, shaggy dog of the Vendee." He has a sweet face, long ears and a shaggy coat. His mustache, beard and profuse eyebrows suggest a worldly but amiable Frenchman look. Beneath all his grand old charm is a rugged, sturdy built dog deceptively quick and light on his feet.

Feed the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen dogs a high quality dog food formula specific to size and age. Life's Abundance distributes a formula you can feed from puppy to adulthood and senior years. You can also choose from other Life's Abundance formulas if you desire.

Life's Abundance is a dog food company you can trust having been in business for over 10 years now and having no recalls on any of their formulas. Should there ever be a recall, you won't have to hear on the news, Life's Abundance Customer Service Representatives will contact you personally immediately. The grand is a medium size dog.

Grooming:

These dogs require a weekly brushing with a slicker brush or a comb. Use Life's Abundance Bath Fresh Mist for easy combing and brushing as well as to keep the fresh scent and a shiny coat. Do not overlook the ears. Start cleaning the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen's ears at 12 weeks of age to help avoid ear problems requiring vet attention. Use Life's Abundance Ear Cleaner for best results.

Exercise:

The Grands are quiet and docile in personality making them excellent companions, house dogs and family pets. Be prepared to provide plenty of exercise within a secure fenced in yard.

Walks with you can be an exercise avenue as well as increase the bond between you and your dog. They are hunting dogs and often will not be able to resist the chase, so be aware if you walk outdoors on trails or anywhere there be other moving objects he can chase, hold tight, he might start the chase.

The majority of these dogs are healthy, however, as we all know, there are exceptions to this rule. Responsible breeders will learn about the specific health concerns of their chosen breed and utilize genetic testing appropriately.
