The Goldendoodle is a cross breed obtained by breeding a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. The name was coined in 1992. They are also referred to as a designer dog.
Designer dogs are traced back to the 20th century when breeders began to cross purebred poodles with other purebred breeds to obtain dogs with the poodle's non-shedding coat along with various desirable characteristics from the other breeds.
Goldendoodle were first bred by Monica Dickens in 1969. They became more popular in the 1990's in North America and Australia. Their original purpose was to develop guide dogs for visually impaired individuals with allergies. Poodles are mainly hypoallergenic as their coats do not shed and produce dander. Dander causes allergies in humans. Golden retrievers are considered to be a great family dog. The cross between poodles and golden retrievers obviously was to create a very family friendly dog and one considered to be good as a guide dog with a dog who would not produce allergies.
Not all goldendoodles turns out hypoallergenic and most do have a low to non-shedding coat, yet still exhibits less shedding than most other shedding dogs. Grooming includes regular brushing, occasional bathing and some fur trimming. For best results use the Life's Abundance Pet Grooming Products.

Goldendoodles are generally healthy. Poodles and Golden Retrievers are both susceptible to hip dysplasia, some eye disorders. They inherit ears of the Golden Retrievers that hang and do not allow water to drain making their ears prone to ear infections and yeast infections in the ears from swimming. Start the Goldendoodle puppies out on Life's Abundance Ear cleaner at 12 weeks of age to help eliminate these problems.
These dogs make great domestic pets due to their affection toward families, their friendliness and patience with children and strangers.
