Cute Small Dogs That Will Wrap Your Heart Around their Paws

Small dogs rank high in the category of "adorable" dogs. In this article, read about some of the most adorable and cute dogs available today. Most of them will weigh between 10 and 18 pounds.

The Havanese is the national dog of Cuba. It is well known worldwide for having charm, being playful and extremely intelligent. The Havanese has a cute, inquisitive looking face just begging for a smile, a pat on the head or a sweet praise from us humans. The coat is silky and especially beautiful just after a grooming session. To enhance the silky look of the Havanese coat use Life's Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo.

Pamper your precious pet with a revitalizing botanical infusion of organic rosemary and sage. Enhanced with the nourishing essences of coconut and palm kernel oil, Revitalizing Shampoo naturally cleanses and beautifies coats. Even a small dollop of this conditioning formula works into a luxurious, foamy lather, to deeply cleanse and leave coats silky, fragrant and tangle-free. The luscious scents of mango and kiwi mingle with energizing citrus notes to bring out natural shine. Natural antioxidants from organic rosemary and sage help prevent damage from weathering and environmental factors. Natural emollients help soften hair and give the coat more body.

Revitalizing Shampoo doesn’t just mask odors … moisture activated odor-fighters react immediately to absorb and neutralize tough pet odors. All that’s left after a bath is a beautiful coat, fragrant with a delicate citrus aroma. Gentle enough for puppies and kittens over 12 weeks of age. Item Size: 12 fl. oz.

His springy gait will delight and enchant you. The Havanese does well in dog sports like agility and rally just as well as warming up your lap as a sweet, loving lap dog.

The Pug will attract people to you as you take your walks down the street. There is usually always someone who will bend over with an ooh or an ahh and attempt to pet these little dogs. They have a sweet monkey looking face with square bodies. Their personalities are somewhat mischievous, but above all very lovable. They make excellent dogs for every age group.

If you like "white" and excessive fluff, the Bichon Frise certainly fits this description. There just seems to be nothing cuter than a little ball of fluff with dark curious looking eyes peeping through all that white cottony fluff. The Bichon Frise is irresistible for some people and even better is the fact they are in the hypoallergenic group of dog breeds, which means if you are prone to allergies, this breed of dog will work well for you.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a noble little dog. Having one of these in your home will provide you with enchantment and joy. They are usually happy, loving and adapt well to many different lifestyles and environments. Their heart-warming eyes will twinkle at you and you might just fall in love at first sight of these charming little dogs.

Italian Greyhounds are for those who are not so much drawn to droopy ears and balls of fluff. They present to us a sleek and elegant posture standing just over one foot tall. They are full of grace, sweetness and affection.

The Cute Canine Behavior of Head Tilting: What does it mean?

Have you seen your dog tilt his head to one side? I have seen this many times. What does it mean? It is as if they are perplexed about something and just wondering "what the heck is going on?" It is cute and oh so sweet looking. I always smile to see my dogs tilt their head to one side as if in a sudden questioning mode. I usually respond with something like, "you are so cute."
According to some animal behaviorists dogs probably tilt their head to one side for many different reasons including trying to get a better view of YOU or trying to hear you more closely. Each time you respond with a smile or a sweet statement, it probably reinforces the behavior and you will begin to see the behavior more often even though it a spontaneous reaction from your dog in the beginning.
It might be that the dog does have a bit of a problem "hearing" you or even "understanding" you. I honestly think one of my dogs who does this is having a hard time understanding something about me.
He is curious about me and almost like in awe of me. He is the one who jumped in my lap and buried his head in my left arm when I first got the shingles virus pain. He knew exactly where the pain was. He looked up into my face and showed me compassionate eyes. I could him saying, I feel so sorry that you are in pain and right here is where it hurts. Right?
Dogs are notorious for having keen hearing. So why would a dog have to tilt its head to hear better? I really think it is to get a better "understanding" of YOU more than to actually hear your spoken words.
I think it is a tilt of keen curiosity about YOU. I reinforced his behavior by a smile and "baby talk," which indicates a joyous feeling I feel for him. I also believe he tries to get a better eyesight view of me.
If you like this cute behavior, here are some ways to positively reinforce the head tilting. Ask questions such as:
  • do you want a cookie?
  • do you want a treat?
  • do you want to go for a walk?
  • do you want to go for a ride in the car?
After you ask the question, then reward the dog with whatever your questions asks. For example, do you want a treat? Give your dog a tasty and nutritious treat such as one of those offered through Life's Abundance. Try them all to find out which one your dog likes best and use that particular one each time you want to reinforce this behavior. Check out the Sampler Pack:
 Sampler Pack

The Life’s Abundance Dog Treat Sampler Pack contains five different nutritious and tasty dog treats.

These snacks are formulated to provide your sweet canine with crucial nutrients, without adding any artificial preservatives, colors or flavors.

In this amazing collection you’ll find:

  • Three Antioxidant Health Bars - Oatmeal & Apple Recipe (with oatmeal, flaxseed meal, peanut butter, apples, honey, eggs, cranberries, carrots, vitamin C, beta-carotene and vitamin E)
  • Three Gourmet Dental Treats – Honey Peanut-Butter Recipe (featuring harvest grains, top-quality proteins, calcium, vitamin C and parsley)
  • Three Wholesome Hearts – Low-Fat Treats (with pumpkin, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, apples, yellow field peas, cranberries, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg)
  • One-quarter-ounce of Tasty Rewards Nutritional Treats (mouthwatering morsels containing high-quality proteins, lecithin, vitamin B12 and pumpkin seeds)
  • One-quarter ounce grain-free Turkey & Berry Chewies.

Dogs will rejoice with our Dog Treat Sampler Pack, featuring our yummy, healthy snacks!
If your question is, "do you want to go for a ride in the car?" Immediately after asking the question get the things together for you and your dog and go for a ride in the car. Soon, you will find your dog trying to gather up his things to get ready to go for a ride in the car.

To make it more fun, decide what you would like for your dog to gather up and then watch him in action when you ask the question, "do you want to go for a ride in the car? When the dog gathers up his gear, reinforce the behavior even more with praise and perhaps a treat at this time as well. Then, head out for your ride in the car.

Dogs repeats behaviors that are rewarded. Our positive reaction to the head tilting will increase the "cute tilting of his head."

A word of caution here might be if you see your dog persistently tilting its head that seems to be related to not much of anything at all, consult with your vet to find out if there is another cause such as an ear infection or something wrong with his eyes. Otherwise, if it is just in cue to some of the things I have discussed here, just enjoy this heartwarming and cute canine behavior.

Dog Napping is on the Rise: How Can Your Dogs Stay Safe?

We are living in a time in history in which dog theft is on the rise. Dog napping is another term often used for this crime. It is something most pet owners don't want to think about and may not even think about. In this article I will share some tips to help you keep your dog safe from dog napping.
Why do people steal dogs? It is most usually to make a "quick buck." In other cases it could just be to have a nice beautiful pet the thief could not afford otherwise.
Dog flipping is a dog napping technique involving people who take dogs from their owners' homes or offices, claims to be a lost dog's owner, or gets dogs from shelter with the intention of reselling the dog. Just imagine the heartbreak this brings to a family and/or pet owners.
Types of dogs stolen the most include:
  • high value dogs of any kind such as bulldogs, shih tzu, yorkies, chihuahuas and more
  • small breed dogs of high value that are easy to grab and run fast
Situations that pose a high risk for dog theft include:
  • people who take their dogs on simple errands
  • leaving your dog alone in a car, it just takes a matter of minutes for dog thieves to smash the windows and get away with your dog
  • in some areas it is not uncommon to leave dogs tied up outside a storefront, which creates perfect opportunities for dog theft
  • leaving dogs unattended in a backyard even with fences poses a problem if there are dog thieves around as they can climb the fence and be off with your dog in a matter of minutes
  • leaving a dog off leash while in parks, leashes often provide safety nets for dog owners keeping the dog safe by owner's side
Tips for keeping your dog safe from dog napping/theft:
  • micro chip your dog and keep contact information up-to-date
  • keep it quiet about where you live, places you go frequently with your dog or even how much you paid for your dog as thieves will search for a high-value dog to steal
  • if your dog is stolen, immediately report it to the police, call your micro chip company and lost-dog or stolen-dog lists or databases online, include local shelters
  • start distributing flyers EVERYWHERE
  • announce the loss on social media
  • be aware of the different situations where your dog could fall victim to being stolen
  • some radio stations may help out making the announcement of a stolen dog

Traveling by Airplane with Your Dog Tips

Are you planning to travel with your dog by plane? In this article I will give you a few tips of how to prepare for a safe and happy trip with your best friend.
You first need to research airlines as each airline has their own regulations and fees. Call the airlines, find out their specific rules and fees, then prepare yourself accordingly. Airline guidelines list:
  • weight restrictions
  • type of crate you will need to use
  • temperature requirements and certain embargoes due to time of year, weather and even certain breeds of dogs plus more
Best course of action is to contact several airlines before booking your flight to determine which best suits your needs. Remember to give yourself plenty of time to take down all the details.

Most airlines require a health certificate from your vet within a specific period of time to prove your pet is healthy enough and without disease to fly. Schedule a vet appointment accordingly.

At your vet appointment be sure to discuss sedatives for your dog just in case the dog gets afraid or become nervous/anxious during the flight. If your dog is not microchip ed, get this done at the vet appointment. You don't want to risk losing the dog without proper identification for returning him to you.

Be sure your dog's rabies vaccination is up-to-date. If you are traveling abroad be aware that some countries may require a specific type of rabies vaccination. Other abroad considerations include:
  • vaccinations required
  • blood and parasite testing
  • licensing requirements
  • destination airport rules and regulations
  • quarantines
Additional points to remember include:
  • accustom your dog to the travel crate
  • confirm and book reservations
  • try to avoid layovers, but if necessary, keep them short, book a nonstop flight if you can
  • have your dog freshly groomed as he or she will be more comfortable freshly groomed
  • to reduce the chance of overheating, consider booking your flight early in the morning
  • if your dog is flying with you, booking a window seat might be helpful to keep your pet out of the aisle traffic
  • you will need an airline approved pet carrier and bedding
  • leash and collar is necessary
  • put a name tag on your dog with your name, address and phone numbers, also include a photo of you and your pet in case you get separated
  • water and portable water dish according to TSA guidelines
  • supply of sealed pet food, dish, and spoon
  • dog treats
  • toys, especially chew toys and chew treats (take along a healthy long lasting chew treat such as a Life's Abundance Porky Puff
  • medications your dog is on
  • plastic bags or other means for clean up after your pet

If  you raise puppies, the type of food  you feed and send your puppies home on is a crucial decision. Create a Disneyland Play Room for Your Dog to Eliminate Boredom

Don't allow your dogs to get bored. Bored dogs become naughty dogs because they have energy to burn that is not being burned up with stimulating activities.
A secret to a well behaved dog is to provide the dog with appropriate mental and physical stimulation every day. If you don't, you will find your dog finds other ways to entertain himself and these will be ways that are either destructive or annoying.
One solution to a bored dog is to provide the dog with a dog playroom. In his own playroom and regardless of where you are the dog can find ways to relieve boredom as he stays occupied within his play room.
Most indoor pet dogs are social beings. They rather hang out with their humans than anything else, however, we all know humans have many other responsibilities in life that keeps them from being "the dog's playmate." Two dogs that can keep each other company, I say, is always better as well.
Choose a variety of interactive toys likes tugs, balls and many other kinds of dog toys. Keep them organized in ways you can rotate them so the dog does not have the entire pile of toys out at all times. If your dog does have all his toys out at all times, more than likely, he will soon still get bored.
Rotate his toys, so that each day he has a different group of toys to play with. There are so many different toys on the market today. This task should not be difficult. You might even leave out 2 or 3 at a time rather than a large group.
Put the rest of them in a box and teach your dog to return his toys to the box. The act of teaching your dog to put his toys away is also a brain/mental stimulating exercise very beneficial for your dog.
When you are gone from the house, consider leaving out treat-releasing balls and puzzle toys designed to make your dog hunt for the treat. Snuffle mats are useful as well to serve his meals when you are out of the house. Find your dog's favorite treat from the Life's Abundance Nutritious Sampler Pack:
The Life’s Abundance Dog Treat Sampler Pack contains five different nutritious and tasty dog treats.

These snacks are formulated to provide your sweet canine with crucial nutrients, without adding any artificial preservatives, colors or flavors.

In this amazing collection you’ll find:
  • Three Antioxidant Health Bars - Oatmeal & Apple Recipe (with oatmeal, flaxseed meal, peanut butter, apples, honey, eggs, cranberries, carrots, vitamin C, beta-carotene and vitamin E)

  • One-quarter ounce grain-free Turkey & Berry Chewies.

Dogs will rejoice with our Dog Treat Sampler Pack, featuring our yummy, healthy snacks!
If you know your dog gets nervous when you leave the house, leave a TV or radio on in his play room. On the market today there are even shows and music specifically designed for dogs that help to keep his brain and mind occupied and the dog out of trouble.
Consider an interactive camera that allows you to talk to your dog and  give the dog a treat. Yes, believe it or not, within our dog market's bag of tricks today an interactive camera does exist.
If you are unable to give your dog an entire room all his own, consider using baby gates or other enclosures specifically designed to keep your dog in a confined area. Of course, you will need to leave down pee pads in the confined area while you are away from home.
Dog friendly flooring for people who have their dogs confined within hardwood or vinyl flooring includes putting down mats that do not slip. You can use a kid's play area mat for this purpose. These mats are especially useful if your dog runs around a lot within his space.
For rest times, consider placing a semi-enclosed or couch-style cuddly and cozy bed. The cozier you make his rest area all the better it is to encourage him to take a snooze now and then.
Think of your dog's play area as creating his very own world of Disneyland just the same as you would do for your child and I promise you, your dog will become a better behaved dog all the way around when you are home and when you are gone.
When you are gone from home it is like sending Fido to his own world of Disneyland fun and play. Of course, he will love it!
If  you raise puppies, the type of food  you feed and send your puppies home on is a crucial decision. Be ahead of your competition and develop a reputation of feeding the highest quality of food you most possibly can. We no longer have to rely on commercial dog foods prepared in large quantities and stockpiled. We can feed our pets fresh food everyday.
