The Czechoslovakian Vlcak has been assigned the Working Group designation in the American Kennel Club.



The Czechoslovakian Vlcak is also known as the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog developed initially from a working line of German Shepherd Dogs bred with Carpathian Wolves. The plan worked out to create a breed that would have the temperament, pack mentality and trainability of the German Shepherd Dog plus the strength, physical build and stamina of the Carpathian wolf. Among this dog's roles are:

• attack dogs for military special operations done by the Czechoslovak 
• used in search and rescue
• tracking
• herding
• agility
• obedience
• hunting

The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is quick, lively, very active, and courageous. They develop strong social relationships with their owners and entire family. They can learn to live with other domestic animals that belong to its family. Difficulties can occur in encounters with strange animals or people.

A Czechoslovakian puppy should never be isolated in a kennel. It must be socialized to get use to different surrounds. Females are often more easy to control. They can be very playful and temperamental. They learn easy. Their behavior is strictly purposeful. They are very good at following trails and can easily shift activities to night hours.

Proper training is of the utmost importance. This is a dog that does best in a working role. They have been successfully employed as a Search and Rescue dog in Italy. Handling requires much more work than with other breeds.
