North Central Louisiana is home land to the Catahoula Leopard Dogs in the geographic area around the Catahoula Lake. The word Catahoula is of Choctaw Indian origin translated into English as being "sacred lake." First settlers in this Louisiana area found the woods full of wild hogs and these Indian dogs.

They use only posture, eye contact and lateral shifts to hold the prey in position.
