The Berger Picard is a Medium-Sized, Active and Athletic Herding Dog

He was bred to be a working companion. He responds well to training. His coat is shaggy with a wiry topcoat and a short dense undercoat which produces a weatherproof coat that is rough to touch. Colors are shades of fawn with or without gray underlay, trim on the ears and brindle.

The Berger Picard requires monthly brushing to prevent mats. Bath him or she occasionally.Use Life's Abundance grooming products:

• Revitalizing Shampoo
• Bath Fresh Mist
• Soothing Mist
• Ear Care Formula

He is one of the French herding breeds from a group of dogs brought to northern France and the Pas de Calais during the second Celtic invasion of Gaul around 400 BC. They have been a difficult breed to establish in North America. Currently those that do enter North America has been made possible via the internet communications between European breeders and American buyers.

These dogs became scarce in Picardy, the region of northern France between Normandy and Paris when the area was ravaged during both World Wars.

Movies in which show the Berger Picards are: (1) "Because of Winn Dixie"; (2) "Daniel and the Superdogs"; and (3) "Are We Done Yet?"

The Bergamasco Sheepdog Has a Strong Work Ethic

The Bergamasco Sheepdog has a coat containing dog hair, goat hair and wool. They all combine to form black or gray felt-like mats which grow over the course of the dog's life. When the dog is approximately 6 years old the mats reach the ground. Another unique characteristic about this dog breed is that when the mats are wet they can actually smell like a "sweater." Isn't that amazing? Just look at this amazing dog breed!

The Bergamascos worked closely with their shepherds in a one-to-one relationship in Italy. Their goal was to protect the flock. A unique relationship existed between the Bergamasco dogs and their masters unlike other shepherding breeds. They enjoyed a partnership with the shepherd in the isolated high mountain valleys. Just one human, a small number of dogs and hundreds of sheep to tend, the shepherd needed his helpers to be as independent as they could be. Therefore, the Bergamasco was developed among them to be able to problem solve on its own.

The American Kennel Club assigned Bergamasco Sheepdogs to the herding group.

In my opinion, another uniqueness of this breed is how there is a curtain of hair that protects the dog from snow blindness.

The Bergamasco is very sociable and is able to develop independent relationships with each person in a household unit. They also will relate to each person individualized. I also find this fact amazing, yet, I have seen this trait even in my shih tzu breed.

Where did the Bergamasco Sheepdog originate? Dog historians can trace his origin back nearly 7,000 years to what is now Iran.

Another amazing discovery about this dog is that most people with allergies to dogs are NOT allergic to the Bergamasco coat. However, people with allergies to "wool" or "lanolin" have been known to have allergic reactions.

Despite his appearance of perhaps being a very huge dog, underneath the coat the Bergamasco Sheepdog is really a trim, athletic dog who weighs from 50 to 75 pounds (this is still a huge dog for me as I am used to 9 pound dogs).

It has been noted this dog breed does not have a tendency to overeat, so you may NOT have a "weight" problem to solve with he or she.

The dog has an extremely acute ability to hear and has been noted to be almost psychic aware of its environment. I suppose this would mean the dog can "foretell" what might be happening in the environment. This might be a good trait as a guard dog. Source: American Kennel Club

It would be nice for dog owners to be aware of "danger" of household intrusion ahead of time by learning what the dog's warnings ahead of time could be. They most likely could predict with accuracy approaching visitors or violent behavior. They have been known to warn unsuspecting people that another dog was preparing to attack. And this is truly amazing to me as well. This breed of dog could perhaps make an amazing guard dog for the right person or persons.

Judging from the appearance of this dog, I would say "grooming" might be a major concern. I recommend using the Life's Abundance ear cleaner and shampoo as well as their other products if you see the need. The ear cleaner is a must for all dog breeds, and an ABSOLUTE must for this one as the hair hangs down over the ears excessively. You can take your own shampoo to your groomer for them to use instead of what they normally use.

The Belgian Tervuren is One of the Four Belgian Herders

The Belgian Tervuren has long hair "blackened" fawn or red. He like the other three Belgian herders are characterized by an elegant but muscular frame, a proudly carried head, an alert and intelligent demeanor, and a work drive that is never satisfied.

The male Belgian Tervuren has a more profuse sporty collarette around the neck. Both male and females are known in its country of origin as the Chien de Berger Beige. This variety owes its name to the Belgian village of Tervuren, home of M.F. Corbeel, who was an early devotee of the breed. Corbeel bred the fawn colored "Tom" and "Poes" who are commonly considered the foundation couple of the breed to produce the fawn color.

The Belgian Tervuren is an excellent listener. When it comes to training he is alert for instructions from his trainer as well as the praise. They do well with obedience training as well as a variety of other activities and dog sports including agility, rally, herding, coursing ability test, and tracking.

He is an excellent home companion, intelligent and sensitive so long as adequate training is provided him.

He reigned in the Belgian's countryside as a general herding and guard dog. I would venture to say he also would make a fantastic guard dog for his human companions. Source: American Kennel Club

He or she will require more grooming than the other herding breeds due to his long hair. I recommend using Life's Abundance Grooming Products:

• Revitalizing Shampoo
• Bath Fresh Mist
• Soothing Mist
• Ear Care Formula

All pets need fish oil. I recommended Life's Abundance.

• Highest score for purity by third-party lab
• Ideal concentration of health-promoting EPA & DHA

Not All Pet Fish Oils are Created Equal

Regular supplementation of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from fish oil can help support your companion animal’s healthy skin, coat, heart, brain eyes and joints. However, numerous supplements on the shelves today do not contain the optimal concentration of fish oil. In addition, many of these supplements are not tested by an independent laboratory to ensure purity and safety.

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil is Better

Our fish oils contain at least 30% EPA and DHA, an ideal concentration for the overall health of your dog or cat. The oil is in a triglyceride form, which is highly bioavailable and without added flavors so it has a natural taste that dogs and cats love.

Our liquid fish oil supplements are effortless to feed compared to gel capsules, which can be difficult to swallow and messy when rejected. The 2-oz. bottle has an easy-to-measure dropper and the 8-oz. bottle has an easy-to-use cup. (A triglyceride fish oil will not have any effect on the plastic dropper or measuring cup.)

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil offers outstanding value. For example, it cost only $.18 a day for a ten-pound cat and only $.37 a day for a 40-lb. dog on Autoship.

Dependable Quality

In its unpurified form, fish oil contains many environmental contaminants, some of which can be harmful to your pet’s health. To purify the oil takes many steps, each one adding to the cost of manufacturing. It is important to buy your fish oil from a company that not only says it purifies the oil, but one that is willing to share the test results from every batch made. It’s the surest way to know what you’re feeding is perfectly safe.

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil for pets are made in a human pharmaceutical facility … the same place as our Fish Oil for people. They are highly concentrated and ultra-pure. Like our Fish Oil for people, each bottle receives a nitrogen flush to remove oxygen from the bottle before it is sealed for ultra freshness. Plus, Ultra-Pure Fish Oils meet or exceed the highest standards in the industry for quality assurance. In fact, each batch of Ultra-Pure Fish Oil for pets is tested by an independent third-party organization (IFOS) and the results are posted right here so you can see the quality, concentration and purity that Ultra-Pure Fish Oil supplements offer.

The Intelligent and Alert Belgian Laekenois Dog Breed

It seems that this breed is not fully recognized in the United States, although it is listed with American Kennel Club at the present time currently eligible to participate in the Miscellaneous Class and still enrolled in the AKC Foundation Stock Service. This enrollment is maintained until the AKC Board of Directors accepts the breed for regular status. Source: American Kennel Club

Apparently it can be shown in Britain, Canada, Australia and throughout Europe along with three of the closely related breeds which share a heritage with the Laekenois. These are the Tervuren, the Malinois, and the Groenendael.

This is a medium size, working sheepdog with sharply triangular ears. It is also recognized by a woolly brown and white coat that gives the dog's coat a "tweedy appearance." Handsome looking dog actually....I like the contrast of color on his face and throughout his body.

His original purpose was as a dog for herding sheep at the Royal Castle of Laeken. He also plays a role of guarding lien that is placed in fields to dry. In the first and second World War, the Laekenois was used as a messenger dog.

According to dog breed historians the Belgian Laekenois is considered the oldest and most rae of the Belgian Shepherd Dogs.

Today they can participate in AKC dog agility trials, obedience, showmanship, flyball, tracking and herding events in the Miscellaneous Class.

• MSM for musculoskeletal health
• Glucosamine for bone & cartilage health
• Hyaluronic acid to aid cartilage strength & mobility
• Sea mussels to support joint integrity

Good joint health is crucial to your companion animal’s wellbeing. The ability to walk, run and jump represents a large part of your pet kids unique ability to express emotion. Unfortunately, aching and stiff joints are just as much a part of aging for dogs and cats as it is for humans. In fact, tens of millions of dogs and cats experience some form of joint challenges.

At present, several hip-and-joint formulas are marketed for companion animals. Unfortunately, most of these products treat the joint as an isolated goal; it is for this reason that they do not work as well as they could.

Our Agility supplement is a holistic formula, which means that it takes into account the needs of the whole body, including all the parts that work with the joints.

This formula helps maintain healthy joint cartilage and connective tissue, and to aid in the production of healthy synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints. This supplement features Glucosamine, MSM, sea mussels and hyaluronic acid. Agility Formula is a holistic, multi-action joint support formula containing scientifically-tested ingredients.

Glucosamine helps maintain and promote joint and connective tissue health. It has been shown to be essential in the healthy development and ongoing maintenance of connective tissue and synovial fluid. Research studies indicate that Glucosamine supports healthy joint flexibility, mobility and lubrication. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a natural source of organic sulfur, an element vital to the maintenance of healthy joints, bones, ligaments and tendons.

Sea mussels also contain Chondroitin Sulfate, which works in tandem with Glucosamine. And hyaluronic acid helps to keep cartilage strong and flexible to better cushion joints. These nutrients work synergistically with the other ingredients in Agility (vitamins E and C, boswellia serrata, alfalfa leaf extract, chondroitin sulfate, manganese and boron) to supply your companion animal with a comprehensive formula to help maintain the health of the entire musculoskeletal system.

And last but not least, this holistic formula has a delicious flavor that your furry friends will love! Join thousands of satisfied customers, and help your pet kids lead a healthier and happier life with Agility Formula.
