Define the Fine Line Between Being Overprotective of Your Puppy and Allowing Puppy to Blossom into a Unique Individual

Raising a new puppy is full of joy as well as challenges. Just as we do with children, we need to find the line between being overprotective and providing puppy with a safe environment to let his personality blossom. In this article I will discuss some do's and don't's.

When you play with your puppy be careful to not get to rough even if the puppy seems gun-ho at getting rough with you, resist the temptation. If you play tug-of-war with your puppy be careful not pull out or injure the puppy's developing teeth. In tug-of-war games you also need to be sure puppy swallows no pieces of rope or fabric. Teach your puppy how to be appropriately rough when playing as it is all part of proper socialization.

Resist the temptation to give your puppy "too many treats." Since it is a time for training the basics I suggest you keep treats to times you are training.
