Tips for Helping Your Dogs Beat the Summer Heat

Everyone knows not to leave their companion animals unattended in a hot car. But there's much more you can do to counteract the high temperatures of summer.

Dogs are particularly susceptible to heat stroke, which can often prove deadly. With a little of prep work and consideration, you can protect your dog friends from the worst heat-related health issues. Read the tips below:
Make a cooling nest. A wet towel or ice pack makes a cool bed for dogs to lay on when the temperature's hot! If that sounds messy, purchase a specially designed cooling mat.
10 am to 2 pm is usually the hottest. During these blazing summer months it's best to limit walks to the early morning and late afternoon. A dog's pads can burn on hot pavement. If you wouldn't walk on it barefoot, neither should they!
Dogs need about an ounce of water per pound of body weight each day. This number increases when it's hot out. Keep cool, fresh water available at all times!
Weakness, staggering, very red gums, excessive drooling, elevated body temperature (above 101.5 F), and nonstop panting are all warning signs to call the vet! 02 03 04 05 Pets can easily overheat while outside.
If your plans include some outdoor fun, make sure your pet has a shady, cool spot to rest, plenty of cold water, and maybe even a nice wading pool to take a dip in.
Life's Abundance Soothing Mist is a wonderful product to keep on hand for dog skin irritations. Dogs do get sunburn, especially the lighter colored dogs.
Unfortunately, skin irritations are all too common for companion animals. That's why we offer Soothing Mist, an herbal blend created to enhance the natural health of the skin and to nourish coats. This spray features zinc and a calming blend of aloe vera gel, marigold, lavender and chamomile to help soothe and protect healthy skin and coats. Safe and effective for both dogs and cats, it's even suitable for puppies and kittens over 12 weeks of age. Finally, a gentle skin-care product that is also highly effective!
