The German Pinscher is Energetic and Super Intelligent

He was first used as a rat catcher and was extremely skilled at his trade.

The German Pinscher is a medium-sized breed of dog, a Pinscher type that originated in Germany. The breed is included in the origins of the Dobermann, the Rottweiler, the Miniature Pinscher, the Affenpinscher, the Standard Schnauzer (and, by extension, the Miniature Schnauzer and Giant Schnauzer). The breed is rising in numbers in the U.S., mainly due to their full acceptance to AKC in 2003. In Australia, the breed is established with a rise in popularity becoming evident.
He is sleek, shiny and elegant looking. You can usually see his muscles beneath the shimmering coat of red or black and blue with red accents. He has a noble, elongated, wedge-shaped head. The dark eyes are alert and eager. Watch him move with a strong, free-and-easy gait that eludes confidence.

Treats are an important tool of training, however, do not overfeed with treats as he may become obese. Use Life's Abundance tasty and nutritious treats for training. Tasty Reward Nutritional Treats work nicely for training.

Tasty Rewards Training Treats
Good behavior should be rewarded, but often training treats are empty-calorie treats with no nutritive value and include undesirable ingredients. At Life's Abundance, we strongly believe that you should only feed treats that can help to support overall health.
Tasty Rewards are wholesome nutritional treats made from New Zealand-raised chicken and lamb.
They’re loaded with proteins, minerals, vitamins and essential fatty acids. And, like all of our foods, supplements and treats, you’ll find no added artificial preservatives or colors..
With Tasty Rewards Nutritional Treats, discipline can be delicious!

Grooming: The German Pinscher's short, dense coat requires very little maintenance. Brush and bathe them weekly. Use the Life's Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo for best results.

Do not overlook cleaning the ears. Life's Abundance Ear Cleaner will remove and prevent waxy build up.

Exercise Requirements: The German Pinscher is agile and athletic with high energy. They require ample daily exercise. He is robust with a strong prey drive, alert and intelligent. They excel as performance dogs and make excellent companions. They enjoy canine sports such as obedience, agility, rally and tracking. Start them as puppies on the Life's Abundance Agility Supplement.

Life's Abundance Agility Supplement
The ability to move freely and comfortably is crucial to your companion animal’s well-being. Unfortunately, aching and stiff joints are often a symptom of growing old for them as well as us. And some breeds are simply more prone to these issues and need extra support.

Typical supplements treat the joint as an isolated target. This approach proves inadequate because joints are part of a complex, interdependent system. To effectively address joint health, grain-free Agility Formula supports the entire musculoskeletal system.

This formula helps maintain healthy joint cartilage and connective tissue, and to aid in the production of healthy synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints. This supplement features Glucosamine, MSM, sea mussels and hyaluronic acid. Agility Formula is a holistic, multi-action joint support formula containing scientifically tested ingredients.

Glucosamine helps maintain and promote joint and connective tissue health. It has been shown to be essential in the healthy development and ongoing maintenance of connective tissue and synovial fluid. Research studies indicate that Glucosamine supports healthy joint flexibility, mobility and lubrication. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a natural source of organic sulfur, integral to many body functions and particularly vital to the maintenance of a healthy musculoskeletal system.

Sea mussels also contain Chondroitin Sulfate, which works in tandem with Glucosamine. And hyaluronic acid (from kollaGen II-xsTM) helps to keep cartilage strong and flexible to better cushion joints.

All of these nutrients work synergistically with the other ingredients in Agility Formula (vitamins E and C, boswellia serrata, alfalfa leaf extract, chondroitin sulfate, manganese and boron) to provide for the comprehensive joint needs of dog or cats, to help maintain the health of bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons.

With no fillers or additives, Agility Formula has a delectable flavor they’ll love! Join thousands of satisfied customers, and help your companion animals lead a healthier and happier life with Agility Formula.

Owners should be firm and knowledgeable about the breed and having experience with other working dogs is a plus. The German Pinscher can be willful and mischievous. He will require early socialization and obedience training.

He may not be ideal for inexperienced dog owners or as a first dog choice. He is best raised and kept by dog owners with experience especially with working dogs.

Health concerns are:
  • eye disease
  • Von Willebrand's disease
  • a small percentage have heart problems
  • some delayed post vaccine complications have also been reported in this breed
Responsible breeders test breeding stock for conditions that can affect the breed. Recommended health tests include:
  • hip evaluation
  • eye evaluation
  • Von Willebrand's Disease DNA test
  • heart exam
Height: 17-20 inches
Weight: 25-45 pounds

The German Longhaired Pointer is Versatile, Calm, and Family-Oriented

The German Longhaired Pointers are gun dogs. You can expect them to excel in:
German Longhaired Pointer

  • search
  • point
  • track
  • and retrieving game

In fact, they excel in all types of hunting situations such as:
DeutschLanghaarneu
  • waterfowl hunting
  • searching for upland game birds
  • retrieving furred game in the woods or prairies most typically rabbits and squirrels in North America
The German Shorthaired Pointer dogs are medium to large size developed in the 19th century in Germany mainly for use as hunting dogs.

These dogs have the unique ability of being able to switch from a calm family member to a fiery, passionate hunter. It is like watching a dog with multiple personalities!

The German Longhaired Pointer looks similar to its Continental Europe's version of a Setter. He is a pointing dog with a full tail and a long coat with dense guard hairs and a moderate undercoat. One huge and noticeable difference is the fact that the German Longhaired Pointer dogs love to swim and waterfowl hunt.

Nutrition: Feed the German Longhaired Pointer twice a day with Life's Abundance high quality dog food according to age and breed size. If Grain free food is a need or preference Life's Abundance also produces a Grain Free all life stages dog food formula.

Grooming: You will need to provide regular grooming sessions especially if he is used for hunting. The long coat may attract burs that may require trimming the coat to remove. Base of ears are prone to developing knots. Check this area regularly and remove the knots as necessary. Use Life's Abundance Bath Fresh Mist  to untangle mats and add a silky shine.

Hunting in heavy cover can cause abrasions to occur in his full tail. Use Life's Abundance Soothing Mist soothes skin irritations and nourishes the skin with aloe vera, marigold, lavender, and chamomile.

Other than the issues above an occasional brush and bath will keep him looking his best. Use Life's Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo with natural antioxidants formulated with rosemary and sage. This shampoo leaves a delicate fragrance of natural fruit extract. It lathers up nicely. You will enjoy the fresh, clean scent whether you use the German Longhaired Pointer as a hunter and after a long day's hunt or keep him as a family pet. Use the Bath Fresh Mist to freshen the scent and his coat in between shampoos.

Avoid allowing his ears to build up in wax and debris that can result in an infection requiring expensive vet care. For best results start using Life's Abundance Ear Cleaner at 12 weeks of age.

Brush his teeth regular. Feed him Life's Abundance Buffalo Bully Sticks and Gourmet Dental Treats to help avoid dental disease.

Exercise: The German Longhaired Pointer requires quite a bit of exercise. They actually do best in households of "avid bird hunters." If you are an occasional hunter, this dog may not be as happy and content as he could be. Other forms of exercise can include:
  • fenced in yards for free runs and play
  • taken for long walks several times a day
  • swimming
  • hiking
  • dogs sports like agility, obedience and rally
Start these dogs out early on the Life's Abundance Agility Supplements.

Health: Responsible breeders utilize genetic testing of their breeding stock to reduce chances of disease in their puppies. Recommended health tests include:
  • hips
  • eyes
  • teeth
  • shoulders
Height: 22-28 inches
  • Weight: 55-80 pounds
  • Life Expectancy: 12-14 years
