🏞️ Origin & History
Mountain Curs were bred by early settlers in the Appalachian Mountains to be all-purpose farm dogs. They were essential for hunting game like squirrels, raccoons, and even larger animals like boars and bears. These dogs helped families survive by providing meat and fur, and they were also loyal guardians.
After World War II, the breed nearly vanished as people moved to cities for work. Thankfully, a group of breeders revived the Mountain Cur in the 1950s, forming the Original Mountain Cur Breeders’ Association (OMCBA).
