How to Introduce Young Children to a New Puppy

Introducing young children to a new puppy in the home is something like "birds of the same feathers always flock together." Puppies and young children are alike in many ways. They are both:
  • curious
  • excitable
  • impulsive
  • endearing
Follow a few good sense rules when introducing your children to the new puppy and you are laying a foundation toward a life-long bond between them both.

First things first. Remember your puppy is experiencing many new things:
  • puppy has to adjust to being away from mother and litter mates
  • the environment is completely new to puppy
Introductions to excited kids should not be a free-for-all. It is best to handle a new puppy short periods of time for each family member. Too much excitement can actually cause a stress disease and can induce vomiting or diarrhea.

Allow the puppy to introduce himself to the crowd. If possible, allow him to meet one child at a time. Help your child understand that a young puppy may be somewhat fearful or anxious and to be gentle.

Be sure you are present to supervise the first meeting between a child and a new puppy. Both puppy and child are learning to behave appropriately with each other. Never allow young children to play rough and tumble games with a new puppy. Any kind of negative interaction can make a puppy feel fearful and also can evoke fear in the child.

Children over the age of 10 are able to go along for walks. This is a great time to teach a child how to hold puppy's leash, and to be patient for potty breaks.

Let your children help you take care of the puppy. In fact, you should assign specific jobs for each child in the family to perform such as:
  •  bringing you the food or water bowl,
  • cleaning the food and water bowl,
  • cleaning up after puppy accidents,
  • getting the leash out for puppy walks,
  • helping with bath time
  • helping with brushing or combing puppy's coat
Allow your children to participate in all aspects of training the new puppy. If a puppy goes to the crate for quiet time, instruct your children not to decide it is time to play with the puppy. Allow the puppy to rest at its own will.

Lastly, be patient with the puppy and the kids. The entire family and new puppy are learning about each other and what is expected of each other. The puppy has new rules to learn. The kids have new rules to learn. Adults need to be patient and realize mistakes are going to happen and it takes time to train to avoid future mistakes.

Most important is to start out on a highly positive note so your children and dog can build a long lasting bond to last for years to come.

And remember, you never have to have a "minimum order" (your personal order of products) to qualify for a commission check. Life's Abundance does not require people to purchase product just to get paid for promoting product. This is one of the unique aspects of being in the network marketing company of Life's Abundance.

Most other companies will require YOU to purchase at least $100 of products just to gain commissions on hard work you do to bring in other customers and reps to the company. It is rare that a rep in this company does NOT earn a monthly commission check. They pay you for promoting and bringing in more business to the entire whole and DO NOT REQUIRE YOU to purchase products monthly that you might not even be able to use.
