Dog Folk Tale: Truth is Far Better

I find folk tales about anything intriguing. One folk tale about dogs that always captured my attention is the one about King Solomon.

This traditional story says King Solomon had a silver ring that bore his seal and the true name of God. This ring gave him the ability to understand and to speak with animals. The folk story goes on to tell us when King Solomon died this silver ring was hidden in a great house with many doors.

Just imagine having a special ring that gave you the ability to speak with your dog. Fact is all of us can learn to communicate with our dogs with or without a special silver ring. The true magic is having an understanding of how animals communicate. We can go a little further here and imagine that the house of many doors is actually research on the subject that then allows us as pet owners to learn how to communicate even more effectively through training techniques and more.

Life with anyone, animal or human is always more satisfying and less confusing when we can communicate with each other effectively.

What makes up the language of dogs?

  • a vocabulary all his own using his eyes, tail, ears, face and body language
  • even a grammar of his language is apparent and can be learned by humans so we can translate the ideas the dog is trying to transmit
  • dogs speaking to other dogs
  • how dogs understand messages from humans
Dogs communicate the truth of their feelings and wants in life. Humans, whether we want to admit it or not, are often deceitful in what we communicate to others, which makes our life with each other uneasy, uncomfortable, and more confusing. Dogs are not the same. I think this one fact is basic to why humans sometimes love their dogs so deeply.

Leonardo Da Vinci once said:

"Man has great power of speech, but the greater part thereof is empty and deceitful. The animals have little, but that little is useful and true; and better is a small and certain thing than a great falsehood."

Of course, it is impossible to have deep or profound conversations with our dogs such as discussions about natural history, moral philosophy or our favorite Hollywood films, actors and actresses. On the other hand most dog owners will agree their communication and relationship with their dog is often richer with emotion and feelings than their relationships with family and friends most likely just because everything our dogs communicate to us is absolute TRUTH.

One story comes to my mind now about my Dog Duke who was waiting patiently at the door for me one night as I battled through the worst weather rain storm of my life trying to drive a short distance back home.

Duke knew I was in trouble and when I opened the door, there he sat ready to tell me just how worried he was about me and how happy he was that I was now safe at home. I understood it all completely. I knew he did not tell me one lie about his feelings.

As a result of this incident our love for each other increased. His welcome was worth more to me than had it been my own father sitting at that door waiting upon my safe arrival home (and that occurred several times as well). Incidentally had it been my father, his welcome would have been a strong scolding as well. Duke did not scold me. He only showed me how much he was worried about me and how much he loved me and how much he was glad I was back safe at home with him now.

Communication with our dogs is simply priceless. Wouldn't you agree? It is a language we learn as we live with them from day to day. The many doors within science helps people to learn how to communicate with our dogs in ways that helps us all live happier with them through appropriate training and conditioning techniques.

If you are a pet owner, you are probably just as concerned about what your dog is really eating. This is why Life's Abundance cooks dog food in small batches with safety considerations second-to-none, which ensures your pet stays happy and healthy.
