He is a medium size dog who is muscular, speedy and exhibits great endurance. Properly trained the Doberman Pinscher becomes a best friend and guardian for its owners and/or family. First Time Breeder?

Some essentials to have on hand if you are a first time breeder and this is your first litter are plenty of newspapers. Keep handy trash bags for soiled papers. A heat lamp or other heat source is advised and a nonskid flooring for pups when the great event is over. Simple hand towels work great. Small wash cloths are good to have on hand as well. You can help clean up a puppy while mom is getting ready for another birth. A small washcloth is perfect size to roll the newborn around and to help rub it into a husky yell. They are good to shake puppies down with as well.

Have a pick me up for mom such as some weak tea, beef broth or chicken soup. She needs as much of your attention and pampering that you can provide at this time. Keep your cell phone nearby and have your vet's number readily available just in case. Most births miraculously occur without problem as just as mother nature intended, but there are the few that present us with complications.

Make yourself comfortable as well. Put on a pot of coffee or a pot of your favorite tea. Relax. Your attitude as the breeder goes a long ways for your matron's attitude.

Of course you also need to prepare the mom ahead of time especially if she has long hair. Be sure to give her a complete shave down well in advance of the due date. The trimming is especially important away from the nipples and vulva if you do not wish to cut away the mother's beautiful tresses altogether. She will probably be more comfortable in a complete shave down, but the choice is yours as the breeder and whatever works best for you both.

If this is your first Chinese Crested litter, ask long term Chinese Crested breeders for any specialized advice or if this is your first Papillon litter, ask long term Papillon breeders if there is anything special you need to know at this time and same for any other breed of dog.

You can even dress your gal with the long hair in a body stocking, leaving the rear exit open and leaving vents for the breasts. Growing a beautiful coat of hair is sometimes hard to just shave all away. Another trick you can use is petroleum jelly to help keep long hair away from the point of exit.

Almost All Chinese Crested Dogs Today Descend From the Famous Crest Haven Kennel

The Chinese Crested, both the Hairless and the Powderpuff were exhibited at one of the earliest dog shows in America, the 4th annual Westminster Show in the 19th century. It was after the First World War when Mrs. Wood of Homestead, Florida started a famous Crest Haven Kennel. Almost every line of Chinese Cresteds alive today traces its beginnings back to this line. It was a time when no formal registry existed for the breed. Mrs. Woods kept stud books for her own breeding program. Below is an example of a Hairless Chinese Crested



The American Chinese Crested Club was founded in 1979 which now includes more than two thousand dogs and began with Mrs. Woods records. In 1986 the b reed became eligible for the Miscellaneous class in the AKC registries. In 1991 the breed gains full AKC acceptance which was a great achievement. Below is the Powderpuff variety Chinese Crested.



During this time the general appearance of the Chinese Crested dogs was one of a toy dog, fine-boned, elegant and graceful. Both varieties, the Hairless and Powderpuff were born in the same litters. The Hairless having hair only on the head and the Powderpuff being completely covered with hair. The breed was a loving companion, and noted to be playful and entertaining. The height was 11 to 13 inches. The head was noted to have an alert and intense expression. Almond-shaped eyes that were set wide apart. The tail: Plume on the hairless variety. The Powderpuff variety completely covered with a double soft and silky coat, straight of moderate density and length. They were noted to come and go at a trot moving in a straight line.
