The Weatherproof Finnish Lapphund is a Tough and Substantial Reindeer Herder From North of the Arctic Circle

The Finnish Lapphunds have a luscious coat and a sweet spitz-like face. Their tails are profusely coated and curve over their back. They are recognizable instantly as Nordic dogs standing about 20 inches at the shoulder. These dogs are surprisingly muscular and substantial for their size. You can watch them move effortlessly from a trot to a full gallop in no time at all as they are extremely quick and agile.

Above: The Finnish Lapphund is a hardy, easy going, medium-size breed of Spitz type. Traditionally it has been used for herding reindeer. Although it is one of the most popular dog breeds in its native country, Finland, it is not very numerous outside of the Nordic countries.
Personality:
  • friendly
  • submissive companions
  • a bit wary of strangers
  • crave companionship
  • will be miserable if neglected
  • intelligent and quick to learn, but also strong willed and independent
This is a distinctive breed of dog strong with a "startle reflex," the result of centuries spend ducking in the antlers of reindeer.

Even though they are known for shedding and barking Lappies are quite popular as pets in their homeland.
Nutrition:
  • Feed a high quality dog food appropriate for dog's age
  • Use treats sparingly. Treats are an important aid in training. Giving too many will cause obesity.
  • If you must give table scraps, please give them sparingly, if at all.
  • Avoid cooked bones and use Life's Abundance long lasting dog treat chews full of good taste and nutrition
  • If your Finnish Lapphund becomes overweight, try the Life's Abundance Weight Loss formula.
Grooming:
  • A smooth outer coat over a soft dense undercoat requires weekly brushing and daily brushing during shedding season to remove dirt and loose hair and to keep your Finnish Lapphund looking at his best.
  • A plus for these dogs is that do not have "doggie odor." An occasional bath is sufficient. Use Life's Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo for a long lasting fresh scent.
  • Avoid shaving a Lappie as this reduces their ability to keep cool in warm weather and warm in cold weather.
  •  Trim nails regularly.
  • Start cleaning the Lappie's ear at 12 weeks of age. Use the Life's Abundance Ear Cleaner for best results.
Socialization:
  • Puppy training classes are recommended.
  • These dogs are intelligent and are quick to learn.
  • Between ages of 7 weeks and 4 months the Lappie needs exposure to a wide variety of people, places and situations to help ensure a well adjusted, well mannered companion.
Exercise and Training:
  • Finnish Lapphunds are calm dogs with moderate exercise requirements. Take them on a long, brisk walk every day to keep them healthy and happy.
  • Play with them using balls and other dog toys.
  • This breed is in the herding category and enjoy participating in herding trials.
  • Lappies excel in sports such as agility, obedience, rally and tracking. Start them on the Life's Abundance Agility Supplement to help maintain their joints and muscles.
Health:
The Finnish Lapphund are generally healthy dogs, however, as with any breed, there are a few areas breeders and pet owners need to be aware of. These are elbow and hip dysplasia.
Brush their teeth regularly and for extra protection use the Life's Abundance Buffalo Bully Sticks and Gourmet Dental Treats.

From the beginning, putting people first has been part of our DNA. We put employees first by making the company 100% employee owned. We put customers first by providing world class products and customer service. We put our Field Reps first by providing a compensation plan that is uniquely structured to be fair and scalable, whether you want to sell products to a group of friends or build a large organization. We don’t believe in binary compensation because it favors the corporation and large distributors.

COMPENSATION PLAN ADVANTAGES

Our compensation plan has no mandatory personal purchase requirements. We don't want you buying stuff you don't need.
