The Dignified Bulldog

He or she is known best for their loose-jointed, shuffling gait and massive, short-faced head. The bulldog is not your typical lap dog. He is a medium size dog although he can weigh up to 50 lbs. I cannot tell it by their looks, but they are said to be lovable and gentle. The certainly look as if they keep a stiff upper lip. Fans of the bulldog seems to just adore the wrinkles. House train your bulldog puppy immediately after you welcome he or she into your home. Use a crate to help facilitate the process. Take the puppy outside immediately after meals and when he wakes up from sleeping naps or otherwise. Start leash and collar training right away.

Use patience and gentleness. The bulldog is very intelligent and tends to do his own thinking regardless of how hard you try to think for him, he will probably out-think you first. Take the lead immediately or else your bulldog may end up leading you around instead.

The Playful and Clownish Bull Terrier

Some Bull Terrier fans describe them as being a three-year-old child in a dog suit. He has a muscular build that might say to you, "I am unapproachable," however, he is known as an exceedingly friendly dog with a sweet and fun-loving personality. I have to say at first sight of this dog breed, I said to myself, he looks as if he could be real mean." I am surprised to find out just the opposite from what I read.

The Bull Terrier can be all white (as seen above) with markings on the head or colored. He is popular in the ring with obedience, agility and show. They range in size as well as color. Provide the puppy and adult Bull Terrier with obedience and socialization classes.

The Cheerful Brussels Griffon

Hello to you Mr. Brussels Griffon! This terrier-like dog breed is known best for his almost human expression, hence, the greeting I just gave him. He is affectionate. Fans of the Brussels Griffon love the variety of colors this dog presents to us including red, beige, black and reddish brown, black and tan, or black.

They are much like the Shih Tzu in this regard as the Shih Tzu also has a rainbow of colors and combinations which make them so dear to those of us who love them. I first fell in love with the shih tzu colors. My first love was the "white" shih tzu with black nose, and lips. I never dreamed they also could be white with brown, lavender, blue noses......The Brussels Griffon is similar in that they also come in a variety of colors. Just look at this face. You can see right away this is a "clever" little dog.

The Brussels Griffon makes an excellent little watchdog, however, because of his size, don't expect too  much of an attack from him. His attack specialty is "rats."  He will alert you to strangers and strange noises around the house enough for you to take cover perhaps and plan the attack.

The Brussels Griffon was featured in 1997's hit, "As Good As It Gets," starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt.

In the 1800's he was the custom for coachmen to keep small terrier types as "ratters" in the stables in Belgium. As with so many of our dog breeds, the Brussels Griffon was bred for the specific job of being a rat catcher.

Some of this same instinct exist today in these little dogs. Hopefully, your home won't be invaded by rats, but keep in mind, if it does, the Brussels Griffon might be just the employee you need to get rid of them.

He is not typical of the "pampered pet" like so many of our toy breeds, however, the small size and super-intelligence makes them ideal for apartment dwellers or people who live in small quarters. That said, he or she still requires adequate exercise just like you and me and all other dog companions. A daily walk with you should be plenty.

He is a clever little dog that will thrive well in environments with lots of human interaction and training.
