Do You Wonder Exactly What Human Foods Your Dog Can or Cannot Eat?

Is there anything wrong with sharing our human food or just deliberately feeding our dogs "human foods?" Here is a partial list of human foods you can feed your dogs and human foods you need to avoid.
Human Food You Can Feed Your Dogs
Bread: Dogs can eat plain bread with no spices or raisins in small amounts. Avoid giving your dog an entire loaf of bread of course, but in moderation just plain white bread chunks maybe fed as a treat is fine. There are no known health benefits to the dog, but to give your dog a bite or two of your plain white bread from your sandwich to eat along with you is fine. Too much white bread has way too many calories and carbohydrates. In addition store bought bread contains chemicals and preservatives sometimes not healthy for humans so you know it is not healthy for your dog either. Homemade white bread might be a better choice.
Cashews: Dogs can eat "unsalted" cashews, just a few at a time. It is fine to offer your dog a few cashews as you munch on them. Just don't over do it or place a lot in a bowl for the dog to eat. Too many of them can lead to weight gain.
Cheese: A lot of dogs likes cheese. Cheese is safe for dogs in small to moderate amounts so long as your dog isn't lactose intolerant. Lactose intolerance is said to be rare in dogs, but still possible. A small chunk of cheese can actually be a good treat. Don't use it for training purposes. Many types of cheese is high in fat. If you do give a cheese treat, look for the low-fat versions.
Coconut, Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil: All are safe for dogs and has some health benefits.
Eggs: Eggs are safe for dogs "fully cooked." Many dogs love hard boiled eggs.
Tuna Fish is safe for dogs to eat.
Ham: Dogs can eat ham, but it certainly is not the best for them to eat. A small chunk of ham now and then is fine, but too much of it can put on the pounds. It is high in fat. Never feed you dog a bowl of ham. Too much ham might give the dog digestive upset.
Raw Honey: Dogs can safely eat honey. In fact, raw honey can have many health benefits given in small amounts.
Pork: Dogs can actually eat pork in moderation.
Human Foods You Should NOT Feed Your Dogs
Ice Cream: Actually, you should not feed your dogs ice cream. Many dogs will react with digestive upset. No reason to give your dog a treat that will make it sick! It is true ice cream can be tasty, but better to leave out of your dog's diet.
Almonds: They may not be toxic to dogs like walnuts and pecans, but they can be dangerous if the dog does not chew them well enough. They can get stuck in their esophagus or windpipe prompting vet emergency treatment.
Chocolate: Dogs should not eat chocolate as chocolate contains very toxic substances that act as stimulants to the dog's metabolic processes. A large amount can cause seizures and/or death.
Cinnamon: Avoid giving your dog food with cinnamon or feeding cinnamon raw to your dogs. It is best to avoid cinnamon. It is not toxic to dogs, but can irritate the inside of their mouth, make them uncomfortable and/or sick.
Garlic: Is not good for dogs. Avoid Garlic like onions, leeks and chives as these are all part of the allium family and are toxic to dogs.
Macadamia Nuts: Do not feed your dog these nuts. These are some of the most toxic foods for dogs.
Of course this is only a partial list of do's and don't's of human food. It is hard to resist the sweet begging faces of our dogs at meal times. I truly suggest you choose the most nutritious food to feed your dog regardless of how much he begs for bites of your human food.
Life's Abundance makes several soft meals you might try as treat foods for your dog. Chicken in Crab in sauce features organic chicken, crab, eggs, carrots, red skinned potatoes and peas (almost like human food) covered in an appetizing sauce seasoned with thyme and parsley plus more....
So far as nutrition as a whole, pet owners are more than ever concerned about what their pets are really eating. This is why Life's Abundance cooks dog food in small batches with safety considerations second-to-none, which ensures pets stay happy and healthy.

If  you raise puppies, the type of food  you feed and send your puppies home on is a crucial decision. Be ahead of your competition and feed the highest quality of food you most possibly can.

Teach Your Dog the Very Important Command of "Down"

If you have mastered the command "sit," the command "down" can be taught in much the same way. Consider the following suggestions to master the important command of "down."
  1. Catch a moment when your dog is lying down. This is best done in a boring, small room such as a utility room or bathroom.
  2. Reinforce the lying down behavior with a treat while he is lying down or when he lies down.
  3. Say your command word or phrase to stand back up, use a lure of any kind for encouragement if needed.
  4. Now, wait for him to lie down again.
  5. While he is lying down after standing up, start saying "down" right before he does lie down.
  6. Another way to lure a down from a sit or stand is to hold the treat in your hand close to the dog's nose, then slowly bring the treat to the floor. Give the treat when the dog's elbows touch the floor to start.
  7. When you accomplish a few repetitions of #6, begin bringing your empty hand to the floor and give the treat after the dog lies down. When the dog consistently follows your hand signal, begin saying "down" as you move your hand.
Important to remember:
  1. Never use force to put your dog into a down position.
  2. Training sessions should be short and fun.
  3. You should always, always end the training session on a positive note. I suggest giving the dog a healthy and tasty chew treat or play a favorite game with your dog.
  4. Different breeds of dogs learn at different rates, just like us humans. If you find your dog is having a hard time learning or is being stubborn, slow down, or change the type of training treats and/or rewards you use. Rewards should be something the dog absolutely adores. Life's Abundance offers a variety of tasty and nutritious treats. Find the one treat your dog just loves and consistently offer that one. Be sure whatever treats you offer are healthy treats.
  5. If you find your dog starts to gain too much weight while training due to having to use so many treats. Try Life's Abundance Wholesome Hearts Low Fat Treats

  1. Lastly, whatever  food rewards you use to train your dog, always be sure the treats are nutritious. You don't want to add extra calories or "junk" to your dog's diet during training sessions.

Socialize Your Puppies to Help Lay a Solid Foundation Toward a Cooperative and Well Mannered Adult Dog

Activities that help socialize puppies include:
  • playing with puppies using balls, squeaky toys, etc.
  • encourage playtime with climbing obstacles
  • games of hide-and-seek
Add people contacts from all age groups and if possible cultures and you are one more step ahead of the game.

It is also important to introduce new puppies to common household sounds such as running vacuums, washer and dryer units, and other appliances used commonly in the home.

What is puppy socialization?

Puppy socialization is a period of time when we want to lay a solid foundation of training to help create confident, well-mannered and cooperative adult dogs. There is a very small window of time to create a positive effect toward puppy socialization as puppies develop at a very fast pace. Most people agree it is between 3 and 12 weeks of age and can vary from breed to breed.

We want to help puppies to "bounce back" from first being afraid. Bouncing back is the puppy's ability to recover from fearful experiences. The theory is the more things a puppy experiences during critical socialization periods, the less afraid and/or bothered the puppy will be throughout life when in new experiences of their life.

It is important to never feed into a puppy's fears and/or insecurities. Ignore puppies' first fear reaction. If  you ignore it, puppies usually will think "no big deal here," and next time not give the same experience a second thought.

Animal behaviorists theorize a dog's behavioral makeup is 35% genetic and 65% due to socialization, nutrition, health care, training, environment and management. From this theory we can conclude puppy socialization does not change basic temperament, however, it does play a significant role in behavior modification.

During the short period of time when puppies develop the fastest, their brains are highly receptive to learning about the world in which they live. It is especially important to introduce puppies with timid personalities to novel things in the most playful and positive way possible.

Puppy socialization requires time, patience and creativity. An important key to it all is to socialize during the critical period of development.

So far as nutrition, pet owners are more than ever concerned about what their pets are really eating. This is why Life's Abundance cooks dog food in small batches with safety considerations second-to-none, which ensures pets stay happy and healthy.
