Misbehaving Dogs are Curable

Your dog is not behaving well. What is the problem? It could be you are just not giving he or she enough exercise time.

This can be especially true if you are a pet owner who is gone many hours a day and your dog's exercise is a quick run into the backyard and then back into the house.
When dogs are not given opportunities to use up energy, the excess energy will go into chewing up your shoes, or digging into the walls, etc. Look for ways to give your dog plenty of exercise. Adequate exercise varies from breed to breed.
Not enough training is sometimes responsible for dogs misbehaving. Don't stop training with housebreaking. Teach your dog to sit, to lie down, to come to you.
It is actually good practice to introduce a new command per week. Dogs need to use their brains and minds just like us humans. Just think how awful you feel when all you do is "sit" or "lie down."
Practice all the commands you teach your dog regularly. Training is a very important bonding time between you and your dog as well as teaching the dog appropriate behaviors in your home.
When you use treats for training be sure you choose nutritious treats that your dog adores. This way, he or she will look forward to getting a reward even more. Plus, you will know you are adding to the health and well being of your dog. I recommend using Life's Abundance Treats for training and otherwise.
More often than not dog owners "reinforce" bad behaviors. If your dog barks a lot, how do you respond? Do you yell at him to stop barking. Well, guess what, you just reinforced his behavior of barking. He has not a clue what he is doing wrong.
Do you have a dog who jumps up and steals food from the dinner table. What is your response? Do you yell at the dog while watching him helplessness eat his stolen goods?
Instead of rewarding your dog for bad behaviors, give him more opportunities to succeed and reward those successes. For example, for the dog who steals food from the dinner table, teach him to go to his own place and give him a treat when he goes. Provide him with a favorite and nutritious chew treat such as a Porky Puff.
Porky Puffs are a safe alternative to rawhide chews. Dogs can’t resist the rich aroma of these delicious pig snouts. Porky Puffs chewable treats are non-greasy and contain no artificial preservatives or flavors. Your dog will most likely choose to chew on a porky puff than to steal your food from the dinner table!
Learn the needs of the breed of dog you own. For example, if you own a Greyhound or a Lab, twice a day walks will probably be enough. If you own a Border Collie, you must realize these dogs were bred specifically to work and will require plenty of opportunities to fulfill their work roles. You might have to play a fast game of fetch with a Border Collie rather than taking him for a walk twice a day.
Before you purchase a dog do some research about their history, why they were bred and what you can provide for them in a new home. You will find lots of information on this blog to help you decide which dog breed is right for you.
