Cinnamon: A Staple Spice in Many Spice Racks, but NOT so Good for Your Dog

Hey...Cinnamon is delicious in many different types of food. Cinnamon is one of the most popular spices and can usually be found in everybody's spice rack as a staple spice.

Don't worry if your dog has gotten into your spice rack or grabbed a bite of a cinnamon bun or roll. So far as experts tell us, Cinnamon is NOT toxic to dogs. Refrain from sprinkling cinnamon on your dog's treats and food. The Pet Poison Helpline warns that cinnamon and cinnamon oils can cause skin and digestive irritation if your dog is sensitive to cinnamon especially if consumed in large quantities.

I would also refrain from allowing your dog to chew on cinnamon sticks as this can cause mouth irritation. Inhaling cinnamon powder might make your dog cough, choke or have difficulty breathing.

Much safer and nutritious dog chews can be found. Life's Abundance distributes several dog chews your dog will most likely adore. You can also kill several birds with one stone. Try Life's Abundance Porky Puffs. The alternative positive aspects are:

  • Porky Puffs are chew-able treats that are non-greasy with no artificial preservatives or flavors so you won't have to worry about getting stain on your floor or carpet as the dogs enjoy's the chew treat.
  • Porky Puffs are a safe alternative to rawhide. Most pet parents have read or heard the dangers of giving their dogs rawhide chews. Rawhide chews can cause choking, throat irritations and potentially dangerous intestinal blockages. You won't encounter these negative aspects if you give your dog a Life's Abundance Porky Puff Chew.
  • They are appropriate for all dog age groups.
  •  Porky Puffs has the rich aroma of delicious pig snouts!

A little bit of cinnamon used in most baked goods is not going to hurt your dog, however, feeding your dog baked goods is not necessarily a good thing. Most of these baked treats are:
  • High in fat
  • High in sugar
  • High in useless calories
All of the above can contribute to obesity, diabetes and pancreatitis. To make matters worse here, some of these baked goods even contain xylitol as a sweetener, which is very toxic to dogs.

If you do feed your dog baked goods with cinnamon, feed in small quantities. It is not recommended you throw down an entire cinnamon roll or cinnamon bun for your dog to devour even though he or she would probably love the taste.

Research has found cinnamon to have a number of health benefits for humans, however, the same has not been proven fact for our dogs.

Some people want to give their dogs cinnamon supplements. I would not advise this, and most likely your vet will not advise it either, but you can check with your own trusted vet if you think cinnamon supplements are good for dogs.

There are supplements made especially for dogs. Life's Abundance distributes a variety of dog supplements. They are:
  1. Agility Supplement
  2. Skin and Coat Formula
  3. Wellness Food Supplement
  4. Omega-3 Fish Oil For Pets
Conclusion:
Cinnamon is safe for dogs to consume in small quantities. Cinnamon is not necessary for contributing to a dog's good health and well being.
