Healthier Eyes Protocol

As a dog gets older owners may notice some cloudiness in the eyes. It is usually a common age-related change in many breeds of dogs, however, it can also be a sign of illness within the eye or within the body.

 Coco's Pups

The cloudiness can be related to a number of problems that include but not limited to:

  • corneal edema
  • cataracts
  • diabetes
  • trauma
  • exposure to radiation
  • toxins
  • nutritional deficiencies
  • eye inflammation
If you do notice some cloudiness in your dog's eye, your vet is the best source to make a correct diagnosis and recommend treatment.

To help keep your dog's eye healthy from a puppy to adult to senior citizen the use of Fish Oil Supplements for pets can help give you some insurance against eye diseases. You should do your homework and purchase the highest quality of Fish Oil possible or else you will just be wasting your money and possibly even harming your pet by giving a Fish Oil supplement deficient in quality.

Life's Abundance distributes an extremely high quality Fish Oil Supplement for pets, probably one of the best on the market today. Click photo below for more information and to purchase.

 Fish Oil

  • Highest score for purity by third-party lab
  • Ideal concentration of health-promoting EPA & DHA
  • Easy to measure & feed
  • Product of Canada
Not All Pet Fish Oils are Created Equal

Regular supplementation of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from fish oil can help support your companion animal’s healthy skin, coat, heart, brain eyes and joints. However, numerous supplements on the shelves today do not contain the optimal concentration of fish oil. In addition, many of these supplements are not tested by an independent laboratory to ensure purity and safety.

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil is Better

Our fish oils contain at least 30% EPA and DHA, an ideal concentration for the overall health of your dog or cat. The oil is in a triglyceride form, which is highly bioavailable and without added flavors so it has a natural taste that dogs and cats love.

Our liquid fish oil supplements are effortless to feed compared to gel capsules, which can be difficult to swallow and messy when rejected. The 2-oz. bottle has an easy-to-measure dropper and the 8-oz. bottle has an easy-to-use cup. (A triglyceride fish oil will not have any effect on the plastic dropper or measuring cup.)

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil offers outstanding value. For example, it cost only $.18 a day for a ten-pound cat and only $.37 a day for a 40-lb. dog on Autoship.

Dependable Quality

In its unpurified form, fish oil contains many environmental contaminants, some of which can be harmful to your pet’s health. To purify the oil takes many steps, each one adding to the cost of manufacturing. It is important to buy your fish oil from a company that not only says it purifies the oil, but one that is willing to share the test results from every batch made. It’s the surest way to know what you’re feeding is perfectly safe.

Ultra-Pure Fish Oil for pets are made in a human pharmaceutical facility … the same place as our Fish Oil for people. They are highly concentrated and ultra-pure. Like our Fish Oil for people, each bottle receives a nitrogen flush to remove oxygen from the bottle before it is sealed for ultra freshness. Plus, Ultra-Pure Fish Oils meet or exceed the highest standards in the industry for quality assurance. In fact, each batch of Ultra-Pure Fish Oil for pets is tested by an independent third-party organization (IFOS) and the results are posted right here so you can see the quality, concentration and purity that Ultra-Pure Fish Oil supplements offer.

Sniff, Search and Find Treat Game

All dogs need exercise and to let go of energy. Some dogs need this more than others. It is all according to what breed you own. The "Search and Find" game can be a lot of fun for owners as well as will tire out even the most active of dog breeds.
 Mary Williamson
Start this training using treats as most dogs will happily hunt for food. As you progress with the game and training you can teach the dog to look for hidden objects like favorite toys and even "your lost items like a set of keys or cell phone." Here are the steps:
#1: Start with your dog sitting and staying. If the dog does not know this command yet, have someone else hold his leash to begin the game/training. Walk 6 foot or so away, show dog the treat, remind him to stay, put treat on floor or ground. Go back to his side and don't let him up yet, turn to the treat, then give the command "Search." Give your release command if he won't budge from the sit/stay position. Dog should go straight to the treat and eat it. Repeat this about six times. Break your treats into small bites so you don't risk over feeding treats during the game.
#2: Command your dog to sit and stay. Now...let him watch you hide a treat in his plain view anywhere you choose that dog can see you hiding the treat. If you are inside, you might try hiding it beside a favorite chair or some other object. Outside, try hiding the treat next to an outside chair, etc. Dog should run, retrieve the treat and eat it. Repeat about 6 times.
#3: Command the dog to sit and stay. Let dog watch you hide several treats in plain view. Return to side of your dog, but don't let him get up just yet, turn and face the treats, rub one of the treats you are using on a paper towel, hold the towel in front of his nose but don't let the dog eat it, just give the command of "sniff." Now give the command "Search." Dog should run out and eat the treats. Repeat about 6 times and be sure to have the dog "sniff" before each set.
#4: In this step the dog should start learning to use his nose to find the object/treat. Let him watch you hide a treat, but not in a place where he can immediately see it (like instead of in front of the chair, hide it behind the chair). Return to the dog. Don't let dog up. Turn and face the treat and give command "sniff." Then say, "search." Don't help him find the treat even if he is having trouble in order to teach him to "sniff" for the object. If dog really can't find treat, then reset the scene, hide it in an easier spot and be sure dog sees you hiding treat. Repeat about 6 times. Over time, hide the treat in harder places training him to sniff the paper towel before each set and then sniff his way to the treat.
You can progress to hiding objects/favorite toys and having him sniff his way to the objects in the same way he sniffs for the treats. This makes a great rainy day game for inside dogs!
Always use tasty and nutritious treats your dog already is acquainted with and likes to eat. For best results use Life's Abundance Treats, which are all highly nutritious. Try each of them until you find one he just loves. A good one to start out with are the Tasty Rewards Training Treats:
 Training Treats

  • Positive reinforcement has never tasted so good
  • Perfectly sized for carrying in your pocket
  • Gluten free, no artificial preservatives, colors or flavors
  • Made in USA with Chicken and lamb from New Zealand
Good behavior should be rewarded, but often training treats are empty-calorie treats with no nutritive value and include undesirable ingredients. At Life's Abundance, we strongly believe that you should only feed treats that can help to support overall health.
Tasty Rewards are wholesome nutritional treats made from New Zealand-raised chicken and lamb.
They’re loaded with proteins, minerals, vitamins and essential fatty acids. And, like all of our foods, supplements and treats, you’ll find no added artificial preservatives or colors.

A Little Bit About the Zuchon

The Zuchon Designer dogs are half Bichon Frise and half Shih Tzu. They are also commonly known as "Teddy Bear Zuchon." Their are fluffy like teddy bears and oh so cute. This is a hybrid that is gaining much popularity in the United States especially.

They are clever, playful, love attention and make good companion dogs easily adapting to any kind of living arrangements. They make excellent apartment pets due to their smaller size. Both of these breeds, the Bichon Frise and the Shih Tzu are bred solely for loving companionship. They make good pets for children as well as adults.

This Teddy Bear look designer dog has been around now for about 10 years in the United States. They are usually small, about 10 to 12 inches in height and weighing about 9 to 13 pounds. In general they have fairly big expressive eyes, and short noses. This hybrid dog has an abundant and soft coat of hair that can be curly or wavy and might even grow moderately long if left not clipped. Colors are usually:

  • black
  • white
  • silver
  • grey
  • tan
  • cream
  • muli-colors of black and white, silver and white, tan and white, cream and white
As both these dogs, the Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu are highly intelligent, you can expect the Zuchon or "Shichon" to be easy to train as well.

Do you raise the Zuchon puppies for sale? Are you a pet groomer? Ways to Eliminate Fear in Dogs and Puppies

Have you ever met up with a very anxious dog or puppy? Sweet as can be, but still yet "nervous." He or she hides behind mommy when new people show up rather than wagging the tail happily and greeting them.
Sometimes more information about any one subject is dangerous in that people make generalizations that are just not true at all. One of these is all the news about "abused animals" and how they act when they been abused.
When a dog is fearful many people NOW assume that dog must have been abused. It is the today's catch-all phrase people use whenever a dog has unknown history shows stress or fear. We say, "he is scared of men because a man must have one time abused  him," or she is scared of ball caps because someone has abused her with ball caps. The same kind of things are said about men with beards, people wearing sunglasses, pulling out a camera and numerous other behaviors.

In fact, there are a lot of dogs who are nervous or show fear and do so NOT as a direct result of abuse. It certainly happens and is horrible when it does, however, a much more likely explanation is that these dogs have just not been adequately socialized as puppies.
A great deal of neurological development takes place after puppies are born, much of it happens in the first 16 weeks. Their early experiences is a crucial time that will make a lifelong impact on their ability to react to stress. During this period of time, they are most open to new experiences, sights and sounds such as:
  • appliances running in the home like vacuum cleaners
  • cats and other pets
  • children
  • men with beards
  • people wearing sunglasses
  • doorbells ringing
  • baseball caps
  • and much more
Dogs who have positive experiences with simple things in their environment during this critical development time is much less likely to react negatively to them on down the road in a new home or elsewhere.

Most puppies go to a new home at eight weeks at the youngest and ideally even a little older than that. As our understanding of the importance of socialization has increased many trainers are opening up puppy classes to 12 week old puppies, and the socialization benefits are well worth it.

Formal programs used to socialize puppies at very early stages of life (puppy preschool so to speak) are great because they walk people through each important aspect of social exposure needed for good socialization, from touching to meeting strangers, to music and doorbells. In fact, breeders can do the same kind of socialization exercises for puppies about to leave home.

Puppy kindergarten and breeder training programs with new litters are well worth the time and effort for both the puppy and their new owners. It can do a lot to help diminish a dog's fear of new sights, sounds or experiences.

For best results use the Life's Abundance All Natural Pet Care Products for grooming any breed of dog.
