Dog Grooming Routines at Home is a Wise Investment Toward the Well Being of Your Dog

Caring for your dog's well being includes:

  • healthy foods

Pet owners and dog breeders are more than ever concerned about what their dogs are really eating. This is why Life's Abundance cooks dog food in small batches with safety considerations second-to-none, which ensures your dog and/or puppies stay happy and healthy.

  • Adequate exercise
  • Vet visits
  • Grooming: Life's Abundance provides everything you need to keep your dog's skin, coat and ears clean in just 4 simple products made with all natural ingredients and no kind of harmful chemicals.
Grooming your dog improves its looks but also lifts the mood. Good hygiene habits are essential for a healthy dog, however, most dogs do  not require daily hygiene and grooming, with the exception of ear cleaning and teeth cleaning. It depends upon what breed of dog you have as to what is required on a routine basis. Obviously some breeds such as a Poodle, Shih Tzu or Afghan Hound require regular grooming routines. If you own a Boxer or Beagle, for example, there is a bit more freedom in the grooming routines. When choosing your perfect dog breed, keep in mind "long hair breeds" always require more grooming than short haired breeds.

Daily Hygiene for every dog breed includes:

  • Teeth brushing
  • Ear cleaning
  • Nail trimming
It is nice to be able to afford professional dog grooming services, however, it is also wise to learn home maintenance grooming for the in-between visits to a professional groomer. You will find many helpful tips in this blog. The breeder you purchased your puppy from is also a wealth of information to you about grooming and the equipment you need to maintain a good home maintenance grooming program.

Here are a few general tips:
  1. Before bringing your puppy home, obtain the right tools such as the right nail trimmers, a styptic powder used to stop bleeding such as Kwik Stop, teeth cleaning tools, brushes, wide and fine-tooth combs, shampoo and a blow dryer. For superior results use Life's Abundance Revitalizing Shampoo. A grooming table with a grooming arm to hold the dog in place is helpful, but any sturdy table is fine.
  2. Choose a brush according to type of your dog's hair. You can check with any professional groomer to get ideas of what type of brush is best for your breed of dog or consult your breeder.
  3. Long and short haired breeds should be brushed every other day if not every day to remove dirt, debris and prevent matting, to control shedding and help create a shiny, healthy coat.
  4. Keep your dog's nails trimmed.
  5. Keep the hair trimmed around the eyes to avoid hair falling into the eyes and causing irritation.
  6. Wipe the inside of your dog's ears weekly with a gentle ear cleaner such as Life's Abundance Ear Cleaner. You will avoid costly vet visits for ear infections.
  7. Daily brush your dog's teeth and use treats specifically designed to help keep the teeth clean. Use Life's Abundance Gourmet Dental Treats or Life's Abundance Buffalo Bully Sticks. Prevention of teeth and gum problems is always better than costly vet bills to fix problems that can be easily avoided with a little daily prevention.

Here are a few things NOT to do:
  1. Avoid using "human" beauty and hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste.  Human products contain chemicals that can be harmful to your pet. Many human toothpastes contain xylitol which is toxic to dogs.
  2. The best way to remove mats is to use your fingers, a product especially designed for removing mats such as the Life's Abundance Bath Fresh Mist, different types of combs, your fingers and a lot of time and patience. Even better is to keep up with brushing routines avoiding mat production altogether. Using the Life's Abundance Bath Fresh Mist as you brush will also help to keep the coat free of mats while producing a luxurious shine.
  3. Avoid bathing your dog outdoors in cool or cold temperatures. This can result in dangerous drops in your dog's body temperature.
  4. Do not attempt to express your dog's anal sacs. This is best done by a professional vet or groomer.
